Practical advice
Preparing for a fire alarm survey
A little preparation helps turn an initial visit into a more useful conversation.
1. Explain what has prompted the project
Is this a new installation, a refurbishment, a fault investigation or a replacement for ageing equipment? Explain what has changed and any deadlines that affect the work.
2. Gather the available information
Bring floor plans, existing system details and service records where available. For commercial and managed premises, provide any relevant fire risk assessment, fire strategy and project specification. If documents are missing, tell us rather than guessing.
3. Describe how the property is used
Tell us about occupancy, access hours, building works and areas where entry needs to be arranged. Include any changes of use or planned extensions that may affect the scope.
4. Photograph the existing equipment
Clear photographs of the panel and its model label can help identify the installation. Avoid opening equipment or disturbing devices simply to take a photograph.
5. Agree what happens next
Ask what the proposal will include, what information is still needed and how installation and aftercare will be explained. A useful survey should lead to a clear next step, not an assumption that every existing component must be replaced.

A new system, an upgrade or a fresh look at your maintenance.
